EPIC's first meeting in the Pacific was held at the University of Fiji in the week of 23rd November 2014, organised by its Centre for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (CCCEESD). The meeting consisted of a consortium meeting, round table, site visit and informal stakeholder gathering.
Apart from the project consortium, University of Papua New Guinea and SPC-SOPAC, the round table attracted students, and major national and regional stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, such as Fiji Department of Energy, Fiji Sugar Cooperation, Fiji Electricity Authority, Ministry of Argriculture and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Representatives from both public and private sectors were given an equal opportunity to discuss the potential and situation of using bio fuel in Fiji. In addition, PNG and Spain also shared the knowledge and biomass development in the meeting.
By the end of the round table, the University of Fiji introduced the newly developed master programme to the participants and potential students.
